One morning, Mr. Finkle woke up and did not find
Toodles, his cat, next to him in bed. He couldn't understand it...Toodles always
stayed in bed until he woke up. They would go together and get the newspaper and sit
and have tea and cookies together. But today was different! Toodles was not in
bed where she should have been.
Mr. Finkle was not the kind of person to panic
however, so after searching the whole house he went out to look for her in his very neat
yard. He knew that Toodles' favorite place to nap was in the Daffodil patch, and even
though it wasn't nap time he still decided to look for her there. When he didn't
find her, Mr. Finkle started to wonder where she could be.
Now one thing Mr. Finkle had was a very active
imagination. He noticed that lately Toodles had been reading an unusually high
number of adventure books lately and couldn't help wondering if she had decided to have
one of her own. Just then he saw Toodles coming out from behind the Lilac bushes
with a very sly smile on her face, and he knew that indeed she had been up to something
very exciting.
Toodles sat next to Mr. Finkle at the kitchen table, and while he poured her a cup of tea,
she began to tell him about her adventure...
... It
all started when I was sleeping on the bed. Suddenly I heard a knocking sound upon
the window. When I went to go see what it was something pulled me back and you
disappeared from my sight.
The grip on my back was pretty tight so I couldn't do anything.
Then something or someone screamed. The screaming turned into laughter and music. It even
started to rain there.
What I saw was amazing! There were gigantic tables made of pure
gold and exotic women dancing! That was when a man dressed all in silk and velvet stepped
up. He smiled at all the people there.
"We are all gathered here to celebrate the birth of the new
prince of our land," said the man. He seemed to be the king of great riches I had
always read about in books."You may begin presenting the gifts to this young
prince,"continued the king. "Lets begin with my loyal servant, Mastufa."
The man clutching me smiled and walked up to a golden, baby crib.
"I present to your royal highness, an animal of many wonders
from a land of flowing gifts,"said the man.
I knew that now was my chance to escape. With that I reached out
to the man's arm(Mastufa's arm that is) and striked it my very hardest. He fell to the
ground yelping and I ran for my life.
The golden tables and the king became a blur. I found myself
laying down on a patch of lilies.
